As a rising star in RBA’s roster of musical theatre talent, Maria Angela Va’a brings over six years of experience as a versatile performer in acting, singing and dancing. As an accomplished vocalist, Maria is adept in both alto and mezzo-soprano ranges and is also a skilled musician who plays piano and bass guitar.
Maria’s most challenging and rewarding role to date was her portrayal of ‘Mrs Corry’ in Mary Poppins by Amici/G&T Productions. Playing the only character of colour in the production she felt a strong responsibility to represent people of colour on stage. Her other notable roles include Deloris Van Cartier in the 2023 production of Sister Act by Whangarei Theatre Company, an ensemble member Mamma Mia! (2018) by Auckland Music Theatre, an ensemble member in Be More Chill (2018) and Daniela in In the Heights (2017) by Manukau Performing Arts.
