As one of RBA Management’s up-and-coming musical theatre Actors, Maria Angela Va’a joins us with over six years of acting, singing and dancing experience to her name. Maria was first inspired to sing and perform after watching her older brother perform in a Hairspray musical, and ever since it has been a huge part of her life.
Maria’s most challenging and satisfactory role to date was her performance as ‘Mrs Corry’ in ‘Mary Poppins Musical’ by Amici/G&T Production. This was due to her playing the only character of colour in the production, which lead to her pushing herself further than she had too before, as she felt like she was representing all people of colour on the stage. Some of her other roles include ‘Deloris Van Cartier’ in the 2023 ‘Sister Act Musical’ by Whangarei Theatre Company, ‘Ensemble’ in the 2018 ‘Mamma Mia the Musical’ by Auckland Music Theatre, ‘Ensemble’ in the 2018 ‘Be More Chill Musical’ and ‘Daniela’ in the 2017 ‘In the Heights Musical’ by Manukau Performing Art.
She also has a long history of advance dance skills, being a part of the M EYE A Dance Crew and has many choreographer credits to her name. These are the 2023 ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ musical by Harlequin Theatre, the 2021 ‘Moana Jnr Musical’ by Childrens Musical Theatre (CMTNZ) and Pukekohe Performing Arts Theatre, as well as the 2018 ‘Madagascar Jnr Musical’ by Pukekohe Performing Arts and ‘The Wiz Musical’ by Manukau Performing Arts.
Maria also has proficient skills as a singer, in Alto and Mezzo Soprano and knows how to play the piano and bass guitar. She is based in Auckland, New Zealand and is looking for the next big role to dive into.
