Classically trained actor with a grounded screen presence and a sharp instinct for complex, intelligent characters.
Taylor Barrett is a New Zealand–born actor and graduate of Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School, later completing advanced training at Melbourne’s 16th Street Actors Studio. With a strong foundation in classical theatre, Taylor began his career performing Shakespeare both in New Zealand and internationally, including with the New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.
His stage work spans both classical and contemporary theatre. Early recognition came through the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand competitions, where he received the Sam Wanamaker Award for Most Promising Actor. Following graduation, he quickly established himself on the professional stage with standout performances including Bennett Francis in Punk Rock at the Fortune Theatre and Kerrisk Redington in Polo with Auckland Theatre Company. Other theatre credits include Mojo by Jez Butterworth, Cosi, Pizza Man, Avatar, and All My Love Paul, alongside collaborations with independent theatre companies in New Zealand and Australia.
Taylor’s screen work includes roles in the Netflix feature The Royal Treatment, the STARZ series Ash vs Evil Dead, Power Rangers, Filthy Rich, Shortland Street, and the historical drama Dear Murderer, as well as a range of independent film projects.
Known for his collaborative spirit and versatility, Taylor moves fluidly between stage and screen, bringing intelligence, physicality, and a grounded presence to a wide range of characters.
